Singapore-Bali Trip Day 2: Club Zirca

I’m going to put this frankly – I was at a gay club today. Yes the homosexual kind, but rest assured, it wasn’t voluntary and I am not gay, not that I have anything against gay people. We figured since it’s Halloween, clubs are going to be completely packed. After hitting up a childhood friend living at Singapore, we headed over to Club Zouk, which turned out to be dark, empty, and closed for business. Our taxi driver then dropped us off at Clark Quay’s Club Zirca, the only place open tonight. How could the bustling Singapore only have one club open on a Sunday night, and that it turns out to be a gay club?

Hesitantly, the group walked in despite the muscular, bra-strapped dude in tight black shorts guarding the door. It only cost ~US$14 though, so we thought it wouldn’t be too bad to just leave if the crowd gets out of control. An impatient bartender poured me a “the strongest thing, whatever you have” at my request. It tasted like spiked water.

I toured around the club for a little while before hitting the dance floor gingerly. The night ended in a surprise. The people who were against the idea enjoyed it, because, as we figured, the ladies at a gay club are less afraid of being pounced on. The fact that most guys are gay also means the 5:1 ratio phenomenon (five guys dancing around one girl) at other clubs becomes a 0:5 ratio phenomenon. Sweet.
