First Day of School

I have to agree – I’m awfully lucky to have this opportunity to study at HKUST. It’s almost a miracle, considering all the complications I had just to get myself admitted and physically in Hong Kong. Sure, in a way this semester was planned in the summer after high school, but I could only plan so far. The extra week I get before school starts was purely luck – our orientation got tabled to yesterday, along with the rest of the registration-related events.

Today marks the first official day of school. The university president prepared a welcoming speech in the atrium to introduce HK and UST to the freshman and exchange students. The rest of the ceremony was quite boring, so I skipped it and attended my first class early.

First class was Macroeconomics – interesting professor and subject, but intense grading curve. Second class was the highlight of my day – amazingly cute professor. This is totally going to be my favorite class. I love sociology and globalization studies.

Oh yeah, Nima and I also ditched the Exchange dinner to buy a fridge at New Territories… but that’s a long story.
